What to Pack in Your Hospital Bag

What to Pack in Your Hospital Bag

For a More Comfortable
Labour & Delivery

You’re coming to the end of your third trimester and your due date is fast approaching. The next thing on your to-do list is to start packing your hospital bag so that you’re ready at a moment's notice. You'll want to aim to have your hospital bag ready around 35–37 weeks pregnant, just in case you go into labour early.

Items like your toothbrush or your favourite water bottle can be thrown in at the last minute, but you’ll want to have most of your bag packed sooner rather than later!

Whether your birth plan involves heading to the hospital or not, we’ve put together our guide for items to help you prepare for labour and delivery.

Other Items to Pack

Aside from clothing, there are a few items you'll want to bring with you to increase your comfort while at the hospital. Here are some of our recommendations >

Packing for Baby

Packing
for Baby

You’ll want to bring a few items to keep your little one cozy during the first moments of their life.

Hospitals will usually provide some basics, like diapers and a blanket, it never hurts to be well-prepared with some items of your own.

Outfit for Going Home

Depending on the time of year, this might look a little different! During the summer, you’ll want to opt for short sleeve or long sleeve onesies, socks, and a hat or a headband. During the winter, your first instinct will want to be to bundle them up. However, you just need to dress them in long sleeves and pants, along with items to keep their hands, toes, and feet warm.

Petit Lem

We recommend items from Petit Lem! They are a Canadian brand that offers organic cotton baby clothes, perfect for bringing your little one home in.

Packing for
Your Support
Partner

After thinking about you and the little one, we can’t forget about your support person! If you have someone coming with you to the hospital, there are some items they’ll want to have on hand for labour and delivery. They should bring along their own toiletries, slippers, snacks, and a change of clothes. As well, anything they want to bring for themselves to keep them entertained during some of the quieter downtimes at the hospital.

The big day is coming quickly and while there may be anxiety surrounding it, there’s a lot of excitement too! Being prepared and making sure you have the right items on hand will help ease any stress.
